I have had the opportunity to watch Sharsheret grow from its inception. My daughter Tamar was the first Sema Heller Intern at Sharsheret in 2005, and I have been a proud sponsor of Team Sharsheret in the NYC Race For The Cure Komen for many years. I believe that Sharsheret plays a critical role not only in supporting women and families facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, but in promoting wellness among Jewish women.
I took on my own fitness challenge this summer with my daughters in Camp Morasha. I struggled with a combination of walking and running but reached my goal of running the 5k with Team Sharsheret in Race For the Cure in NYC this Fall. I never thought about running a half marathon until I received an email from Sharsheret sharing that they had slots. This idea of running a half marathon galvanized me into setting a new fitness goal and increasing my commitment to Sharsheret. This race will be especially fun and meaningful for me as I am actively training with my daughter Ariela Harcsztark, who is also running with Team Sharsheret.
I am dedicating this challenge of completing the NYC Half Marathon to my aunt who passed away from metastatic breast cancer, and another who beat it. To my colleagues, clients and friends whom I have witnessed struggling to balance being the stalwart of their families while fighting for their own lives, because of you, I have a heightened awareness of the impact of breast cancer on the immediate family, and extended family. This race is for them. Please support me in my efforts as I make it to the finish line, and donate to Sharsheret.
