I’m turning 30 on March 21, and have been trying to decide how to celebrate. I thought about parties, trips, meals, but I kept coming back to running the NYC Half Marathon and supporting Sharsheret. I put off signing up for weeks, but once I realized my hesitation was because I was scared and lazy, I knew I had to do it.
When I think of Sharsheret, I think of various women from the Teaneck community whose warmth, strength, and vibrancy still inspire me long after they lost their battles against breast and ovarian cancer. To me, running the NYC Half Marathon with Sharsheret means honoring my own strength and accomplishments, recognizing the incredible blessings in my life, and raising money and awareness for an organization that helps so many strong and inspiring women and families facing very difficult times.
In the past five years I ran two Komen Race for the Cure 5Ks and the ten mile Cherry Blossom Race in Washington, DC. At this milestone birthday, I am excited to push myself even further and run my first Half marathon.
This year, instead of birthday gifts, I hope you will donate to Sharsheret, and support me as I aim to cross the finish line on March 18, and the starting line of a new and exciting decade on March 21.
