Sharsheret will join thousands of women and men gathering in New York City's Central Park to participate in Susan G. Komen for the Cure's Race for the Cure, a monumental breast cancer fundraising and awareness event. Team Sharsheret will meet at 8:30 a.m. on Race Day on the northeast corner of 74th Street and Central Park West for a Team Sharsheret photo. The Race will begin at 9:00 a.m. To register for Team Sharsheret, visit www.komennyc.org, click on “Race for the Cure,” click on “Join a Race Team” and type Sharsheret.

Team Sharsheret’s triathletes will be competing in the Nautica/NYC Triathlon, on Sunday, July 18, 2010. Support our five triathletes: Linda Gerstel (New York City), Cheryl Lasher (Englewood, NJ), Gila Leiter (Teaneck, NJ), Joseph Lerner (Englewood, NJ), and Chani Teigman (Englewood, NJ). Cheer them on as they swim 1500m in the Hudson River, bike 40k along Manhattan’s West Side Highway, and run 10k through Central Park to the finish line.

Free National Teleconference & Webinar

Sharsheret will present a free national teleconference, “The Impact of the Holocaust on Breast Cancer in Jewish Families Today,” Tuesday, July 14, 2010, 8:00 p.m. (EST). Sharsheret will partner with the National Council of Jewish Women Bergen County Section to present, Breast & Ovarian Cancer: Jewish Families May Be at Greater Risk, an informative panel discussion. Director of Operations Elana Silber and Genetics for Life Coordinator Niecee Singer Schonberger, MS, CGC, will discuss hereditary breast cancer in the Jewish community, genetic testing for BRCA gene mutations found in 1 of 40 Ashkenazi Jewish women, and Sharsheret’s national programs and services. This event is free of charge.
