Sharsheret Featured In Slingshot For Second Consecutive Year
Teaneck, New Jersey (August 9, 2006) — Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young Jewish women facing breast cancer, has been selected for the second consecutive year as one of 50 organizations to be featured in Slingshot, an annual resource guide to fifty of “the most innovative organizations, projects, and leaders across the country,” published by the Andrea and Charles Bronfman Philanthropies. Conceived of by young philanthropists, the Slingshot guidebook features both new and established non-profits that are taking creative approaches to addressing age-old concerns of identity and community in Jewish life today.
Sharsheret was selected by 25 prominent Jewish funders and professionals from among 100 nominated organizations based on the criteria of impact, innovation, strong leadership, and organizational efficiency. “Sharsheret appreciates the significant recognition of being highlighted in this important publication,” says Director of Operations Elana Silber. “This is a great opportunity to showcase Sharsheret’s accomplishments and expose our organization to new funders in order to further our mission of providing resources and support to Jewish women facing breast cancer nationwide.”

Since the organization’s founding in 2001, Sharsheret has received more than 8,000 phone calls from those affected by breast cancer, health care professionals, women’s organizations, Jewish organizations, and others interested in learning more about the important services Sharsheret provides nationwide.
Sharsheret has developed three core programs in response to the needs of young Jewish women facing breast cancer: The Link Program, a peer support network connecting young women newly diagnosed or at high risk of developing breast cancer with others who share similar diagnoses and experiences; Education and Outreach Programs, including health care symposia addressing the concerns of young women facing breast cancer; and Quality of Life Programs, including the Busy Box for young parents facing breast cancer, Best Face Forward to address the cosmetic side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and Embrace, a support program for women living with advanced breast cancer.
