Teaneck, New Jersey (June 14, 2016)- Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, is proud to announce Jewish Family Services of Raleigh Cary, NC as a new Sharsheret Supports Partner.

The Sharsheret Supports program assists communities in developing and maintaining local, free breast and ovarian cancer programs and support groups. Sharsheret Supports combines local cancer resources with Sharsheret’s vast national expertise, and culturally-sensitive resource materials to enhance the support available to women and families facing cancer.

Through the Sharsheret Supports program, we will work with the JFS of Raleigh Cary to develop education and support programs tailored to the needs of the local community and connect JFS of Raleigh Cary with other Sharsheret Supports partners across the country.

“Since the launch of Sharsheret Supports in 2007, we have partnered with more than 60 Jewish organizations and cancer organizations across the country to develop and maintain local, culturally- relevant breast and ovarian cancer support and education,” said Director of National Outreach Melissa K. Rosen, “We are excited to add Jewish Family Services of Raleigh Cary to this list, and work closely with them to increase breast and ovarian cancer awareness in Raleigh and beyond.” Together we will improve the quality of life for all Jewish women and families facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

ABOUT SHARSHERET
Sharsheret, Hebrew for chain, is the only national organization supporting Jewish women and families, of all backgrounds, facing breast and ovarian cancer—those who are diagnosed and those at high risk. Sharsheret is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and has earned a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.

To date, we serve more than 54,500 women, families, health care professionals, community leaders, and students from all 50 states. All Sharsheret programs serve all women and men.

As a member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women, Sharsheret shapes messaging and programs at the national level. Recognizing Sharsheret as the model for culturally-relevant breast cancer support, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has awarded the organization two multi-year grants to develop support programs. Additionally, Sharsheret participates in psychosocial research studies and evaluations in partnership with federal agencies and major cancer centers, including Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center.

•    Family Focus®, providing resources and support for caregivers and family members
•    Ovarian Cancer Program, tailored resources and support for young Jewish women and families facing ovarian cancer
