In addition to Sharsheret’s programs and services, you may find it helpful to access local resources for support during surgery, treatment, and the transition beyond treatment. The following are some guidelines for finding support in your community.
- Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies can generally provide you with individual and family counseling, group support, information and referrals, and in some cases, emergency financial assistance. To locate the number of a Jewish Family and Children’s Agency in your area, call the Association of Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies at (800) 634-7346. You can also search online for an Agency in your area at www.ajfca.org.
- Jewish Healing Centers can provide you with spiritual support. To learn more about Jewish Healing Centers and to find one in your area, call the National Center for Jewish Healing at (212) 399-2320. You can also visit their website at www.ncjh.org/index.html.
- Bikur Cholim organizations, providing care for the ill and infirm, often provide cancer patients with meals, transportation to and from treatment, and child care. For a state-by-state listing of Bikur Cholim organizations, visit www.shemayisrael.com/bikurcholim.htm.
- Your local synagogue or community Rabbi may be able to provide individual and family support, as well as referrals to local resources including Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies, Bikur Cholim organizations, and other sources of support within your community.
As always, please consider Sharsheret’s programs and services a resource for support. Please call Sharsheret toll-free (866) 474-2774 for more information.
