DESCRIPTION:Sharsheret is a proud supporter of the Greenwich JCC’s Taking Action Against Breast Cancer: Genetic Testing\, Screening and Lifestyle Prevention. After a healthy breakfast\, our panel of experts will present the latest research and information on breast cancer prevention. The panel will discuss in an interactive forum the following important topics: \nGenetic Testing: Who should be tested and when? BRCA testing for those with and without family history of breast cancer.\nRisk Assessment: How to determine individual risk and what is the latest on genetic\, environmental and biological risk factors?\nScreening/Early Detection: What are the current recommendations for screening and what are the new technologies on the horizon?\nLifestyle Prevention: What are the risk factors that are modifiable with lifestyle and behavioral changes? \nThe symposium will be on Monday\, May 15th\, 9:30-11:30 am\, at Old Oaks Country Club. Hosted by Greenwich JCC and the Breast Cancer Alliance.

SUMMARY:Partner Training: An In-Depth Exploration Of BRCA & Jewish Genetics
DESCRIPTION:In coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention\, Sharsheret has planned two comprehensive\, 90 minute in-service training webinars for our Sharsheret Supports partners and those organizations interested in partnering. The first session will be held on Tuesday\, May 16th and explore both the basics and the most recent updates of BRCA and other genetic mutations and hereditary cancer within the Jewish community. Participants will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the field\, ask questions\, and learn about Sharsheret’s Genetics for Life program. DESCRIPTION:Join our Sharsheret Supports Partner of Excellence\, Nishmah in St. Louis. Their Sharsheret Supports Circle meets to offer support to women in the St. Louis Jewish community who have been diagnosed with breast or ovarian cancer and are anywhere along their treatment path – before\, during\, or post treatment. These casual get-togethers are designed to encourage connections with peers\, health professionals and additional resources. Led by licensed social worker Kathy Bearman\, this group meets from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month at the Jewish Community Center in Creve Coeur. Newcomers are always welcome. Sponsored by Sharsheret Supports\, a project of Nishmah\, the group is open to the Jewish community. Kosher dinner will be served.
