Beyond the Clinical Setting: My Summer at Sharsheret

By Lilly Rotman

As a pre-medical student, I found myself searching for a different type of internship this summer. I wanted the opportunity to understand the needs of women beyond the clinical environment and learn about what is available to support them. My internship this summer at Sharsheret gave me that and so much more.

Throughout my internship, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects. I helped conduct pharmaceutical research for potential partnerships and grants, researched Jewish resources for women diagnosed with cancer, and identified communities where Sharsheret could expand its outreach and support for Jewish individuals and families. Through these experiences, I came to appreciate how much work goes into ensuring women and their families have access to meaningful resources, support, and care.

One of the highlights of my internship was helping prepare for and participate in Sharsheret’s Annual Benefit Gala. Being involved behind the scenes made me appreciate just how much dedication goes into bringing an event like this to life, and seeing so many people come together in support of Sharsheret’s mission was incredibly meaningful.

I am incredibly grateful that this summer expanded my understanding of what it means to contribute to women’s health. It showed me that support comes in many different ways and inspired me to think more broadly about the many ways I can advocate for and support women throughout my future career.
