Teaneck, New Jersey (May 14, 2018) – Sharsheret, the only national not-for-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of Jewish women and families, of all backgrounds, facing breast and ovarian cancer, is proud to announce the expansion of their National Board of Directors on the heels of their largest and most successful fundraiser on Sunday, May 6th.

The Annual Benefit Luncheon, held in Teaneck, NJ, attracted more than 600 women and men and honored sisters Gila Pfeffer and Miryam Reinitz-Kops for their efforts in educating the broader community about their risk for hereditary cancer and supporting women facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Jonathan Blinken was presented with the Lisa Altman Volunteer Tribute Award for his tireless efforts on behalf of the organization. At the event, Sharsheret announced exciting news about the Board’s expanded leadership including the the appointment of Jonathan Blinken as the new Board President, the welcoming of two new Board members, Lizzy Greif from Dallas, Texas and Michael Shapot of New York City, and the appointment of Board member, Leslie Sidell of Denver to the Executive Board as the new Treasurer. Dalia Shoretz Nagel completes her term as President and will stay on as Immediate Past President in the year ahead.

“This past Sunday, we held our largest and most successful fundraiser, much to the credit of our wonderful honorees and an incredible committee of volunteers,” said Sharsheret’s Executive Director Elana Silber. “Building on this amazing energy and momentum we are thrilled to welcome new leadership to our Board that will guide the organization’s efforts locally and across the country, saving more lives with greater awareness and improving more lives with expanded support.”

About our Board Members
Jonathan Blinken, of Englewood, NJ, has been in the financial services industry for over 25 years, helping his clients in the areas of financial planning, economic confidence building and employee benefits. He is an active member of Team Sharsheret, having completed 2 marathons and 2 triathlons for the team and has served on the Sharsheret Board of Directors and the Executive Board as Treasurer.

Leslie Sidell, of Colorado, is a wife, mother, business leader, philanthropist and cancer previvor. She received her MBA from the University of Denver, and is a graduate of the Wexner Heritage Program. Leslie has served in national not-for-profit leadership roles for Jewish Federations of North America, including co-chairing National Women’s Philanthropy’s International Lion of Judah Conference. Locally she is involved in the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. She serves as board chair of the Denver Jewish Day School, and has served on several committees of JEWISHColorado.

Lizzy Greif was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She attended Bank Street College of Education and received an MS in Education with a specialty in infant and parent development. Family and education have always been priorities in her life. Lizzy lost two sisters to breast cancer and is committed to supporting and educating anyone and everyone about breast cancer, however she can. Toward that end, Sharsheret has been a resource for her, and she has been a longtime volunteer for Sharsheret. Lizzy has been on various national and local Dallas-based boards.

Michael Shapot of NYC, has been a Manhattan real estate broker for more than 20 years. During that time, he has created one of the most successful and respected teams within Keller Williams. Michael exemplifies the new breed of modern real estate professional, providing superlative service and advice to a varied client base of sellers, buyers, landlords, and tenants. Merging his professional training and experience as an attorney with his savvy business knowledge and his thorough understanding of the market, Michael delivers unique, strategic and effective plans for each one of his clients.
Michael has hosted multiple Sharsheret Awareness Rides at Flywheel Sports, and is committed to Sharsheret’s critical mission.

Earlier this year, Sharsheret also announced that past Board President Dana Norris returned to Sharsheret as a member of the Honorary Advisory Board. Dana’s experience and expertise will help advance Sharsheret in the areas of human resources, board recruitment and fundraising.
